2. Once you have consented and been explained the procedure a photograph should be taken, and the tooth shade guide must be used to match enamel colour as a reference to compare the result.
3. You should first either brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with water to increase penetration and then you will then be asked to sit in a comfortable chair or upright bed.
4. The area being treatment must be prepped and you must put on safety glasses.
5. The correct percentage for your level of staining or sensitivity can then be opened. A mouth guard containing the whitening product is placed between the teeth for the client to bite down and secure into position.
6. The strips of product inside the guard should be illuminated for 20min per strip, therefore the britelight can then be set for 20-30min and placed in front of your mouth. After this time a new mouth guard with product must be opened for further whitening.
7. Once the time have been completed the mouth guard and remaining product is removed and you can rinse your mouth. At this stage the teeth can be compared to the tooth shade guide again. No more than 60minutes of application time should be used in 1 treatment to achieve as white as possible.
8. You will then be given an aftercare form and booked for a maintenance treatment at a later date.
How Cosmeticbright works:
- Each tooth is made up of an inner dentin layer and hard outer enamel layer that protects the teeth.
- When staining occurs, another layer gradually builds up on top of the enamel layer.
- As the foreign material accumulates it forms a pellicle film over the enamel.
- A dentist can attempt to scrape this away, brushing can knock some of it out and whitening tooth paste treatments can work even harder on this layer.
- The problem is that as the pellicle layer sits on your teeth for years and years the foreign material gets into the enamel.
- If the enamel becomes porous, staining agents can work their way down into the tooth where you can’t simply scour them away. Most staining is harmless but people find this unattractive.
- The dentin and enamel layers are made up of hydroxyapatite crystals a natural occurring form of calcium which gives our teeth its nice white look.
- When deficient, the calcium in the enamel layer can be replaced by Fluoride, Carbonate or Chloride to make compounds such as Fluorapatite. Fluoride works cosmetically on the outer enamel layer to protect the tooth from further corrosion or damage through topical exposure. Too bigger exposure to fluoride and a person will experience fluorosis which is the mottling of tooth enamel. In mild forms this can appear as small white marks but over time becomes discoloured with brown markings, the tooth becomes stained, pitted, rough and hard to clean. These marks left by fluorosis can be permanent and can darken over time if left untreated.
- Dentin and enamel are constantly being regenerated from vitamins, minerals and enzymes in your bloodstream through microscopic tubules to the outer layers of the teeth therefore naturally should not require topical fluoride to remain healthy under the right circumstances. Making sure you obtain good dietary sources of calcium and phosphorous such as in green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds and some dairy will ensure healthy levels of these minerals for your teeth to recover or remain healthy.
- When professional teeth whitening is performed, the bleaching chemical can get down into the enamel and set off a chemical reaction (An oxidation reaction) that breaks apart the staining compounds for removal.
- The controlled use of hydrogen peroxide (The active ingredient) under LED light causes it to breakdown into oxygen and water removing the straining during this reaction. Heat and light is the main catalyst for speeding up the tooth whitening processing providing clinical results in a short period of time.
